Motor mount position

My truck was originally equipped with a 6 banger now has a 350. It sits very far back,do I need to move the motor mounts? there is only one hole in the bottom of the crossmember for the lower bolt,so I am unsure what I need to do to move it forward.Thanks.

Re: Motor mount position

Check the classified section or post a WTB for a set of V8 towers, you should be able to find a set fairly cheap.

The V8 towers sit further forward, and are lower than the I6 towers, which would be necessary to maintain proper driveline angle. As you've probably noticed, the V8 on I6 mounts tilts rearward due to the wrong mount height, as you can see in the pic of my truck mounted that way

Re: Motor mount position

I searched the FAQs and nothing. Are the 6 cylinder and Small V8 the same perches? I also have a 3spd manual trans and the bellhousing is bolted to a crossmember. Can I remove that crossmember and use a standard trans crossmember to move my engine foward?

The I 6 & the sb V8 stands are different(you cant just move yours ahead). if you opt for the V8 stands, you will also need to remove the bell mount crossmember, & discard it. You can then use an auto trans crossmember under your 3 spd stick trans(the crossmember will be in the frame holes for 1 equipped with a 350 turbo. You will need to lenghten you driveshaft(you will be sliding the eng foward 3 1/2"), & you will also need to rework your clutch linkage, as well as adjusting the exhaust, & no doubt shift linkage.
Personally, I like to run my sb in I6 spot,& havent had any weird angle issues, or problems(other than the distrib is close to the firewall ). here are a few shots of mine..... http://community.webshots.com/user/hotrodhorn best of luck, L
